The London Schubert Players welcome you to the mysterious sounds of their next journeys:
- the magical musical world of Ravel and Faure
- the film-like music of the Jewish-Ethiopian story which brought many international awards to Radu Mihaileanu's film Va, vis et deviens
- a meditation by a Serbo-Croat composer on Japanese poet Basho
- the colourful and delightful rhythms of Venezuelan and Romanian dances
- the poetical paths of Heine, Baudelaire and Tennyson put to music by composers Silvestri, Cashian and Nickol.

The two events are part of Invitation to Composers international project, which has enriched Europe’s cultural heritage in 2010 and 2011 with 40 valuable works inspired by music, literature, visual arts, history and nature. It is building bridges between great traditions of music of the past and contemporary thought, without the use of electronics and non-musical experiments. It was one of 87 projects selected by the European Commission out of 298 for its recent cultural programmes. It has caught the interest, imagination and admiration of over 100 professional composers and 80 performers worldwide, the composition department of London’s Royal Academy of Music, record distributors, festival directors and music lovers.

The book to be launched contains the Bournemouth Symphony players' impressions about the legendary Romanian conductor Constantin Silvestri; and the unique film, shown publicly in Britain for the first time on July 6th, a tremendous performance of Silvestri conducting the French National Radio Orchestra in Liszt's poem Tasso and Silvestri's own work Prelude and Fugue (Toccata).

We want to share these journeys, entrance is free and a glass of wine will be waiting for you!

20 June 2011, 18.30 hrs – In the presence the Ambassador of Romania to London, Dr Ion Jinga, at the Embassy’s venue, in 1 Belgrave Square SW1X 8PH, the Romanian Association of Wales along with the Românca Society are presenting the “Exhibition of Romanian books and traditional costumes”.

The event aims at presenting the Romanian traditional costumes and reunites as special guests:

- Mr Vasile Timis, Secretary of State, Ministry of Culture and National Cultural Heritage;
- Associate Professor Dr. Paula Popoiu, General Manager of the National Village Museum, Bucharest;
- Associate Dr. Elena Tirziman, General Director, National Library of Romania;
- Dr. Sanda Miller, writer and lecturer;
- PhD. Ionela Flood, writer, President of the Românca Society

Associate Professor Dr. Paula Popoiu will speak about the Romanian traditional costume, and four young Romanians, wearing traditional costumes will highlight the colour and charm of our tradition, keeper of the Romanian spirit.

The Romanian Association of Wales will make a donation of books and costumes to the Embassy of Romania in London.

Associate Dr. Elena Tirziman will present the book donnation, in dialogue with the public.

The release of the Romanian poetry book Parfumul Ingerilor (The Perfume of Angels), written by Ionela Flood will complete the evening programme. The book has illustrations made by John Astalus, Adina Romanescu Vlaic Peter, Amy Lee and Adela Ursache, and comes with a multimedia CD.

The event will also include a recital performed by the Romanian pianist Diana Ionescu.

This project has been initiated by Ştefan Giurcă, founding member of the Romanian Association of Wales and benefits of the kind support of the Presidential Administration, the Embassy of Romania in London, the Ministry of Culture and National Cultural Heritage, the National Library of Romania, “Dimitrie Gusti” National Village Museum – Bucharest, “Busuiocul” – Romanian folk dance group of Bacau, as well as of the Romanian National Television.

START AN AMAZING BRAND NEW CAREER , TRAIN, AND DEVELOP NEW SKILLS TO ENTER THE FUTURE FASTEST GROWING INDUSTRIES

Climate Change Youth Development Trust is running a green life skills youth programme from now until the end of July 2010 working with between 16 -20 unemployed young people (19-24 years). We will engage young people in learning, offering new learning opportunities and increasing knowledge and understanding to pursue education, training and employment opportunities in the future green and low carbon industries including green social enterprises.
We also wish to support and track young people after they complete the course through job searches, one to one support, IAG to enable participants to pursue pathways into education, training and employment within these industries.
The programme will cover an overview of sustainable development , impacts of climate change adaptation and the need for green industries to reduce c02 emissions, new learning opportunities and skills generated as a result of climate change mitigation and adaptation, knowledge & understanding how these industries work ,career advancement ,orientation and positioning, visits to green projects , like the Built environment, green social enterprises, recycling centres etc.
Opportunities exist for participants to get paid work employment with the CCYDT after the completion of the course.

CONDITIONS OF BOOKING

- Training is free but places are limited. Bookings will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
- If you book a place on a training session CaVSA expects you to fill it. Trainers plan their activities and produce quantities of resources based on the number of people that book on a course.
- You must arrive on time for a training session (during registration). Trainers plan a full training course and do not want you to compromise your own learning opportunity.
- Late comers also disrupt the course for other participants.

Creating the right learning environment is crucial to
· promoting positive behaviour
· enabling pupils to learn effectively and responsibly
· helping teachers to have a less stressful, more enjoyable teaching experience!

This classroom management course is important for those teaching in supplementary schools who want to positively develop their learning environments and pupils’ behaviour, and who would like to have classes that are more satisfying for pupils and teachers. Trainees will have the opportunity to reflect on their own teaching situations, challenges and solutions.

This informative course is interactive and will enable trainees to
· explore the impact of space, time and resources on the learning environment and how teachers can more effectively use these
· examine different teaching styles and the effects of these on pupils’ behaviour
· look at motivators for pupils in the classroom that influence behaviour and how teachers can utilise these
· explore the importance of language and communication and the difference this can make in how pupils respond
· look at practical strategies for promoting appropriate behaviour and an effective learning environment

Dear Prime Minister,

The Romanian community in the UK is aware of the efforts being
made by specialist organisations to gather information and
statistics in order to assist the UK Government make an
informed and balanced decision regarding access to the UK
labour market by Romanian citizens. Romania has worked hard
both in the run-up to its EU accession in 2007, and in the post
accession period to strive for genuine integration at a
European level. However, the current position of the UK
government is to treat Romanian nationals differently from
other EU citizens. Under its current ruling, Romanian citizens
are only permitted to work in the UK in the agricultural and
food industry sectors. We believe this measure is
discriminatory as it denies Romanian citizens their basic human
rights under EU law. We therefore urge the UK government to
rescind this discriminatory regulation at the earliest date
possible and restore to Romanian workers their legal right to
mobility across EU borders.

I would like to invite you to take part in a market research .

Criteria are :

- 4 men and 4 women, romanian people
- Mix of older and younger (aged 20-60)
- Mix of working and not working; + working at different kinds of jobs
- Some people who are born in Romania; Some who are born in Uk but their parents or grandparents were born in Romania
- Half who have lived in Uk for less than 5 years and half who have lived in UK for more than 5 years
- All to speak good English as group discussion will be in English. All to also be speaking in their mother tongue within their community
- All to have mobile phones that they use regularly - every 2-3 days
- All to call family and friends who live abroad/home country atleast once a week
- Mix of contract and pay as you go
- 2-3 to have O2 as their network; others to have different networks
- 4 to use calling cards; mix of different companies
- 4 to not use calling cards but are open to using them
- All not to have taken part in phone research before

They can bring friends or family who fit this criteria with them.
Each person gets paid £35 for 1.5 hour discussion. Refreshments provided.

OPEN LETTER TO TONY BLAIR 2006

Dear Prime Minister Tony Blair,

Free movement of Romanian workers in the UK after 1 January 2007

The Romanian community in the UK welcomes the consistent support that you and your Government have granted to Romania’s preparations for accession to the EU. We urge you to continue to follow your policies and beliefs and take the decision to open UK’s labour market to Romanian citizens once Romania becomes full member of the EU in January 2007.

We are writing to you on behalf of thousands of taxpayers of Romanian origin, who have contributed to the astounding economic success that Britain has experienced under your leadership. Moreover, the members of our community have always taken an active role in the development of the British-Romanian economic, political and social links and they will continue to consolidate these links in the future.
We are deeply concerned about the denigrating campaign of the past weeks in the British media that does significant harm to the true image of Romania. The numbers of Romanians who intend to come to work in the UK after 1 January 2007 have been highly exaggerated. After all, Romania has a booming economy and is already experiencing a shortage of labour. These trends, coupled with the economic incentives that will be created by EU entry and structural funds, are conducive to job creation and higher salaries. Consequently, the incentives for Romanians to work abroad will be significantly diminished.

We believe that our arguments in favour of opening up the British labour market to Romanians deserve consideration. Firstly, we believe that allowing free movement of Romanian workers into the UK will contribute to economic growth in both countries. Secondly, this decision will prevent and drastically reduce incentives for illegal labour and exploitation. And last but not least, it will further enrich the relationship between Romania and Great Britain as NATO allies and EU partners.

It is a fact that the growing British economy needs an inflow of labour to cover a variety of sectors in the labour market. Studies have already proven the positive effect of the influx of workers from A8 countries to the British economy. The same studies have downplayed the alleged negative effects of Romanian immigrants on the British social welfare system. According to the British law, workers coming from the A2 countries would not be entitled to social benefits after 1 January 2007. Moreover, the typical Romanian immigrant is mainly young and single, therefore, it is unlikely that he/she would overburden the UK education and health system - as it has been alleged.

As you recently stated in the opening of the TUC conference the immigrants from the A8 countries ‘have helped and not been burden’. We strongly believe that this will remain true if Romanians gain access to the UK labour market after they join the EU.
In the light of these arguments, we urge you once more to grant Romanians free access to the British labour market beginning with 1 January 2007 and thus, give us the chance to contribute to the cultural richness and diversity of Great Britain, whom we respect and take as an example.

Mobile Youth Arts Programme Development Manager:

This is a new post for the Festival of Youth Arts. We are looking for someone with excellent written and verbal presentation skills and a proven track record in fundraising. The applicant must be able to use their own initiative and work independently, while also having the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. This post is funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

FYA is a small youth arts charity. We were set up in January 2006, since then we have held 2 large scale youth arts festivals in London. We have engaged over 2,500 young performers, 185 young volunteers and over 150 youth arts organizations. Our partners have included the National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Mayor of London, ICA, Arts Council, Hackney Empire and many more. FYA has a small but dynamic board of which 50% are young people. We aim to excel in youth led arts management.

The successful applicant will be managing a youth led mobile youth arts programme. This programme aims to engage young people who are NEET or at risk. FYA gives them intensive training in events management to enable them to produce a youth arts event in their borough. A pilot phase was successfully completed in 5 boroughs in 2007 and we are now looking for someone to take forward the learning outcomes from 2007 to develop and deliver a full programme of events for 2009. The role will include fundraising, partnership development and project management. It will require hard work, imagination, creativity and attention to detail. The post holder will share high fundraising targets with the chief executive who will work with them on the programme. The aim is to secure funds and partners in 2008 to be able to deliver the programme in summer 2009.

This is a one-year contract that is renewable dependant upon the success of the fundraising and partnership drive.

If you are successful you will have to undertake an Enhanced CRB Check.

Knowledge and experience:
• Experience of working in partnership with local authorities and other public bodies.
• Fundraising experience including local authority funding, trust funding and corporate funding.
• Project management experience including the management of people, time and resources.
• Knowledge of youth arts.

Open Day on Friday 27th June between 11am and 1pm in Fulham where you can come along, chat to staff and volunteers, learn more about this role, have a go at some of the tasks involved and decide if this is the right opportunity for you.

You don't need any particular qualifications or experience to train as an adviser. All sorts of people are CAB advisers.

TRAINING
START programme for young people (13-19 years)

About the START programme
START is a unique, industry-led training programme for young people from across West London. The programme delivers literacy and numeracy qualifications through imbedded performing arts.

Following an individual learning plan and initial assessment, young people will be supported in achieving a City
and Guilds Literacy qualification at level 1 or 2 equivalent to a GCSE in English on the National Qualifications
Framework.

Participants are introduced to a variety of skills including acting, dance, graffiti, and lyrics. Participants are
assigned a Peer Mentor and are supported by the Lyric's Creative Learning team and work towards a small
performance.

In partnership with the BBC, Connexions H & F and the Volunteers Centre, we provide each participant with supported progression pathways such as further education, volunteering opportunities, work experience
placements and apprenticeships.

When does the next START programme run?
Spring: April 1 – May 9, 12pm – 6pm
Summer: 21 July – 29 August, 12pm – 6pm
